4 Food Recalls You Need To Know About This Week

Forget about Halloween spooks and spirits—the most horrifying thing this past week was the number of foodborne pathogens and foreign materials found in our food. Learn why white and yellow peaches, fresh parsley, taco kits, and jerky have all made food news recently.

Giant Peach Recall Caused by Listeria Contamination

On October 29, Moonlight Companies announced a recall of California-grown yellow and white peaches after Listeria was found in its packing facility. The affected peaches were sold nationwide at major retailers like Kroger, Walmart, Target, and Trader Joe’s between September 16, 2025, and October 29, 2025.

For most, eating something contaminated with Listeria could cause typical food poisoning symptoms like nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea. But for other people, such as pregnant women, young children, older adults, and those who are immunocompromised, the health effects could be life-threatening.

How To Identify the Contaminated Peaches

• Packaging Details: Peaches were sold individually and in multi-packs
• PLU Numbers: 4401 and 4044 (only for peaches sold individually)
• Distribution: Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Trader Joe’s stores across the country
• UPC and Lot Codes: The recall announcement has a full list of affected UPC and lot codes

This recall does not apply to any peaches with stickers that say “Organic” or “Washington.” 

What To Do With the Recalled Peaches

If you have any of this contaminated fruit, do not eat it. Return any recalled peaches to the store where you bought them for a refund, then sanitize any areas the fruit touched, including your fruit bowl, countertops, or refrigerator.

Fresh Parsley Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

On October 28, Pacific International Marketing recalled Italian flat-leaf parsley after a sample collected earlier in the month tested positive for Salmonella. The company distributed this leafy herb to wholesalers across Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, Ohio, and Nevada between September 22 and September 25, 2025. While the parsley is unlikely to still be in your refrigerator, it could be in your freezer (if you like to extend the life of your fresh herbs).

Similar to Listeria, Salmonella can cause serious foodborne illness in certain groups of people. If you suspect you may have eaten contaminated parsley and experienced any food poisoning symptoms, report your experience to the FDA.

Popular Taco Kits Recalled After Seasoning Packet Mix-up

On October 25, Teasdale Foods, Inc. recalled taco kits sold at Aldi and other retailers due to a major ingredient mix-up. The kits contained cocoa powder packets instead of taco seasoning, which means the product contains an undeclared milk allergen.

Milk is one of the most common food allergens in the country, and if someone with a severe allergy were to open the packet, the consequences could be fatal. For everyone else, making tacos with hot cocoa instead of cumin and chili powder is still less than ideal.

Jerky Containing Metal Fragments Recalled 

On October 24, LSI, Inc. recalled 2.2 million pounds of its Korean barbecue pork jerky after receiving consumer complaints about wiry metal pieces in the jerky. Eating anything sharp can damage your mouth, throat, and digestive tract. The recalled pork jerky was sold at Costco and Sam’s Club locations across the country.
