Cabot Creamery Recalls Butter in 7 States Due to Bacteria



On April 9, 2025, Agri-Mark, Inc., Cabot Creamery’s parent company, announced a voluntary recall of a specific lot of its 8-ounce Extra Creamy Premium Sea Salted Butter due to elevated levels of coliform bacteria detected during routine testing.

The affected butter has the lot code 090925-055 and a best-by date of September 9, 2025. This product was distributed in seven states: Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Arkansas.

Coliform bacteria are commonly found in the environment and are generally harmless. However, their presence in food products can indicate potential contamination and raises concerns about food safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified this recall as a Class III event designated for products unlikely to cause adverse health consequences.

Agri-Mark reported that 99.5 percent of the affected butter was recovered before reaching consumers, with only 17 packages sold, all in Vermont. To date, no illnesses or complaints related to this product have been reported. The company has identified the source of the contamination and implemented corrective measures to prevent future occurrences. No other products were affected by this issue.
