Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day—mostly because it feels like the only socially acceptable time to eat something sweet and still call it fuel. Greek yogurt has become my go-to for that reason: it’s protein-packed and satisfyingly tangy, but neutral enough to build into whatever I’m craving.
Lately, that’s meant swirling in a spoonful of chunky peanut butter and finishing with a shake of cocoa powder. The result tastes alarmingly close to a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, but it’s breakfast: quick, creamy, and just sweet enough to feel like a treat without actually eating candy before 9 a.m.
How to Make Peanut Butter Cup Yogurt
Scoop about three-quarters cup of plain Greek yogurt into a bowl, add a generous dollop of peanut butter (one to two tablespoons), and sprinkle in a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder. Adjust to taste: If it’s not creamy or chocolatey enough, go ahead and add a little more of whatever you love most.
The ratios I’ve experimented with give you enough flavor without overwhelming the yogurt. While I’m usually a natural peanut butter girl all the way, if you’re using plain Greek yogurt, it can lean a little too tart to hit that candy bar flavor. In that case, I’ll reach for a sweetened variety (I like Kraft Smooth and B Happy Peanut Butter), which perfectly balances the cocoa’s bitterness.
If you prefer to stick with natural peanut butter, that totally works too—just balance the tang with a drizzle of honey and a pinch of flaky sea salt before finishing with the cocoa powder.

More Tips For Adding Peanut Butter and Cocoa to Yogurt
There’s a tiny yet important technique here. If you simply drop a scoop of peanut butter into your bowl and stir in cocoa powder, it can start to look like, well, something you’d rather not eat. Instead, spoon the peanut butter into the yogurt, sprinkle over a teaspoon of cocoa, and gently swirl everything together. Think loose ribbons, not full mixing. You’ll get little pockets of peanut butter, streaks of chocolate, and a bowl that looks intentionally marbled.
On days when I’m feeling extra creative (or just went grocery shopping), I give the bowl an extra crunchy flourish, like a handful of dark chocolate and peanut butter granola from Love Crunch, cacao nibs, or even a few chopped peanuts. I’ll slice up a banana or a few strawberries for extra sweetness.
It’s the kind of easy, everyday breakfast that feels like dessert without trying too hard—and the best part is, it takes less than five minutes from fridge to spoon.
