Google’s Top Trending Recipe of 2025 Is Definitely Here to Stay

Viral recipe trends don’t always stick around. Last year’s Google’s top food and drink recipe winner was the Olympic Chocolate Muffin. Remember that? This year, their “year in search” trend report revealed a recipe that already has bona fide staying power.

This year, it seems we’ve all been searching for “hot honey.” Well played. Here’s why I think we’ll be eating even more of it next year.

If you look at the data, you’ll notice that interest in hot honey didn’t plummet or spike the whole year. Instead, our obsession was steady and consistent. The United States led the global pack, with New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom rounding out the top five.

Other top recipe contenders this year included Marry Me chicken, chimichurri, chia pudding, and white chicken chili, but hot honey was our sweetheart.

What is our fascination with hot honey? My internet research and intuition have led me to three main reasons:

  • It’s delicious. While recipes and store-bought versions vary in flavor and heat level, there’s one thing everyone seems to agree on: Hot honey is delicious. The sweet-and-heat combination is exciting to the palate, and it works well with many global cuisines.
  • It’s everywhere. Remember five years ago when you hadn’t heard of hot honey? Flash forward to today, and it’s nearly impossible to find a restaurant or grocery store that doesn’t have it. We can thank social media for its quick and steady rise to fame, where everyone—chefs, influencers, grandmas, and all people in between–shared their favorite ways to make and use it.
  • It’s simple. Daily life is exhausting and moves quickly. There’s something delightfully basic about hot honey that’s made it America’s sweetheart. The combination of two ingredients–honey and chiles–makes sense.

My Favorite Ways To Use Hot Honey

Luckily, there are many ways you can enjoy hot honey. Of course, you can make your own version, combining honey with any variety of chiles, but there are several store-bought varieties to try. Once you’ve secured your favorite, experiment! I love adding warmed hot honey to my popcorn or as a garnish for a yogurt bowl. It’s also delicious drizzled over fried chicken or a buttered biscuit
