The Best Coffee Creamer You Can Buy at the Supermarket, According to Baristas

Candidly, I’m a late adopter of coffee drinking. While I’ve always loved the smell—even as a youngster—the bitter taste never appealed to me. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized just how tasty coffee can be, and how helpful that extra boost is on days when my energy is low.

That said, coffee creamer is an essential ingredient in my coffee if it’s going to appeal to my palate. But the coffee creamer section of the grocery store is more extensive than ever, making a purchasing decision challenging. To help me in this pursuit, I decided to ask a handful of baristas what their favorite coffee creamer is, and they all mentioned the same brand.

The Experts I Asked

  • George Lubitz: Former barista with over 10 years of combined experience at Joe Coffee and FIKA in New York City
  • Matt Blackard: Owner of Elias Coffee Roasters, a small-batch coffee roaster based in Woolwich, New Jersey
  • Matt Woodburn-Simmonds: Former barista, writer, and co-founder of Home Coffee Expert
  • Leslie Lee: Head Barista at the ESPRO Coffee Bar in Toronto

Simply Recipes / Natural Bliss

The Best Coffee Creamer, According to Baristas

According to the coffee pros, Natural Bliss is the ultimate coffee creamer because of its simple, recognizable ingredients.

“I really like Natural Bliss, which is marketed as a ‘coffee creamer,’ but is really only milk, cream and sugar,” says Lubitz. “Traditional creamers have palm oil and excess sugars, which are fine enough on their own and totally fine in moderation, but I’ve found that the abundance of both (not to mention added flavoring) really takes away from the flavor of coffee in a way pure dairy and table sugars do not,” he explains. Lubitz reaches for the brand’s Sweet Cream flavor.

Lee agrees, adding, “Natural Bliss is made with real milk and cream, so it gives your coffee a richer taste and smoother texture.” Woodburn-Simmonds is also a fan, sharing, “the creaminess is very, very good,” though, he has to use more of it to get the flavor impact as other creamers.

Meanwhile, Blackard loves the Cinnamon Bun flavor. “I love cinnamon-flavored coffee creamer, and this is the best tasting, easiest-to-find version,” he says.

Simply Recipes / Chobani

The Runner-up Coffee Creamer

Chobani’s coffee creamers were a close second for some of these baristas. Blackard loves their Sweet Cream flavor: “It’s rich, silky, and perfectly sweet. No need to add sugar.”

Meanwhile, Woodburn-Simmonds reaches for their vanilla version, sharing that it has “an awesome balance of richness and creaminess that creates amazing foam and has the most sumptuous-yet-delicate vanilla flavor. Anyone who loves a delicately flavored vanilla latte will love this.”
