The $5.99 ALDI Freezer Find That I Can’t Stop Buying

Keeping my 15-year-old son fed sometimes feels like a full-time job. If he’s not asking me when and what’s for dinner, he’s grazing almost all the time. I can feed him a full meal, and not 15 minutes later he’s looking for something else to nosh on.

I know I’m not alone in this situation, so I’ll share one of my secrets for keeping him fed: ALDI’s freezer section.  And one of my latest finds is a good teenage hunger fix, Casa Mamita Mini Tacos.

What’s So Great About Casa Mamita Mini Tacos

For only $5.99, Casa Mamita Mini Tacos come in three flavors: chicken, beef, and southwest veggie. There are about 20 tacos in a 17.5-ounce package, or enough to make one or two meal-sized servings or three snack-sized servings for my son. For regular people, there are five servings of four tacos each. And mini doesn’t mean the tacos are dinky. About two would fit in a small taco.

The chicken comes with pinto beans, green enchilada sauce, and cheddar cheese, while the beef comes with tomatillo salsa and Monterey Jack cheese. The southwest veggie comes with Monterey Jack cheese, corn, black beans, bell peppers, and a sweet chipotle sauce.

When trying both the beef and the chicken, hands down the teenagers preferred beef. Both were slightly crunchy, with enough spice and cheese to be melty when microwaved. They were much crunchier when I cooked them in my air fryer. You could also make them in a conventional oven, but I prefer my air fryer for fried foods.

How to Serve Mini Tacos

I think a bag or two of these babies would make a perfect appetizer for a party, but in my house, they’re mostly something my son can grab when hungry. I can tell him to eat the mini tacos instead of munching on something sugary.

They also make a great choice for a quick lunch. I like them served with a salad or black beans.  They hit the spot without much effort.

They taste great by themselves, but I prefer them served with guacamole and salsa on the side. My son also says he prefers them with guacamole.
