Sometimes, food products end up in the wrong package—and for people with allergies, that kind of mistake poses a serious health risk. This is exactly what happened with one of Häagen-Dazs’s most popular ice cream treats.
On November 3, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc., announced a voluntary recall of Häagen-Dazs Dark Chocolate Mini Bars. The company discovered that products containing wheat were repacked into the incorrect packaging at the beginning of a production run. This is a major packaging mix-up—ice cream that contains wheat is now hidden in packaging where wheat is not listed on the label.
According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), if someone with an allergy ate the ice cream containing wheat, the consequences could be life-threatening.
