I have more than a handful of unapologetic snacky obsessions. From strawberry ice cream to spicy and crunchy snacks, I rarely shy away from an indulgence. The item that tops my list of must-haves is salty, crispy, golden fries.
I can’t think of anything better than opening my oven to see a tray of piping hot, crisp potatoes!
However, not all frozen fries are created equal. To eliminate limp, tasteless fries from my future, I reached out to three culinary experts to find the absolute best brand of fries. Luckily, all three came back with the same answer.
The Fry-Loving Food Pros
- Henry Elmore: The president of franchise development of FishBone Seafood, a California chain that serves fried fish (and fries, of course)
- Marissa Stevens: Recipe tester, author, and photographer for Pinch and Swirl
- Shawna Clark: Recipe developer, cookbook author, and creator of Healthy Foodie Girl

Expert-Approved Frozen French Fries
“Without a doubt, Alexia is my go-to,” says recipe developer Shawna Clark. Marissa Stevens, the creator behind food blog Pinch and Swirl, had to agree: “There are so many bad versions of frozen fries. I’ve tested a lot of brands—usually when I need a shortcut that still delivers on taste and texture—and Alexia really stands out.”
There are plenty of reasons Alexia’s fries are great, but fish expert Henry Elmore particularly appreciates “the commitment to quality ingredients like non-GMO potatoes, sea salt, and minimal preservatives.”
Marissa seconds that, noting the clean ingredient list and absence of “off” flavors. “They don’t taste like fast food, which is a good thing in my book,” she notes. “The potatoes taste like potatoes, and the seasoning, if any, is subtle.”
Shawna also loves the fluffy, silky interior. “No matter if you bake or air fry them, you’ll always get that golden, crispy finish on the outside,” she says. “That’s not easy to find with frozen fries!”
In terms of offerings, Alexia has many different kinds of fries to choose from, which the experts liked. “They offer cuts and flavors beyond the usual,” says Marissa, “but none of them feel gimmicky.”
Henry adds that this brand helps “elevate the frozen fry game with seasoned and gourmet-style varieties.”
As for which cut to buy, well, that’s personal preference. Shawna loves the brand’s Sweet Potato Fries and Rosemary & Sea Salt Fries, while Henry says you can’t go wrong with the crinkle-cut option. Marissa’s only caution is that “shoestring fries just don’t reheat well. They dry out fast or turn limp, while waffle or thicker-cut fries will hold up better.”
Whatever option you choose, don’t overcrowd the fries. You want to “make sure you cook them in a single layer,” Henry advises. That rule applies whether you’re crisping fries in an air fryer or baking a batch in the oven like I do. Now, it’s only a matter of whether to dip in ketchup.
