Oreo Is Releasing a New, Limited-Edition Flavor—and I’m in Love

Does anyone else go to the cookie section of the grocery store to stare at the dozens of OREO packages? Though I often window-shop, I have tried several of the new OREO flavors like Coca-Cola, Apple Cider Donut, and Fruity Pebbles. I even attended an OREO taste-testing party last year, where I fell in love with OREO Cakesters, not realizing they’ve been around for almost 20 years. 

OREO is releasing another new flavor that’s a collaboration with Selena Gomez. The Limited Edition Selena Gomez OREO Cookie is inspired by horchata, featuring two chocolate cinnamon-flavored wafers with layers of chocolate and cinnamon-flavored cream and sweetened condensed milk-flavored cream inside.

According to OREO, Selena drew from her childhood to develop the flavor with the brand, wanting the cookie to feel comforting and nostalgic. The OREOs include embossed designs, including one with Selena’s signature that appears in about one in three packs. 

Why I’m Excited About the New Horchata OREO

Some past OREO flavors have been so outlandish there’s almost no way they would be good, like Coca-Cola or Sour Patch Kids (take it from me—they weren’t), existing more for the shock value. Others have played it a little too safe, like Brownie Batter and Blackout Cake, which basically just tasted like chocolate OREOs.

I like how this cookie hit the sweet spot (no pun intended) between safe and adventurous. Horchata—a sweet, cinnamon-vanilla-flavored rice drink—has a strong foundation to make a good cookie flavor, and yet it’s not a flavor I would have expected.

My Honest Review

I got to try these OREOs early, where the real test was going to be if they actually tasted like horchata. Survey says? They do! While the horchata vibe isn’t as strong as I thought it would be, the cream in these sweet and spiced cookies does have a horchata-like taste. But with the chocolate-cinnamon wafer, the cookies overall actually reminded me more of Mexican hot chocolate.

Either way, they’re a scrumptious treat, especially when dunked in milk, as OREOs are known for. With the delightful twist of cinnamon in the wafer and cream, I could see myself buying this variety over regular OREOs. 

When and Where To Get the New Horchata Oreos

The Limited Edition Selena Gomez OREOs are available for presale in the US starting on June 2nd, 2025 and will be available at retailers nationwide starting June 9, 2025, while supplies last.  As part of the collaboration, OREO is also donating to the Rare Impact Fund, which was founded by Selena to support providing youth with mental health resources. I’ll be loving these OREOs like a love song while I can!
