Cleaning the microwave ranks somewhere between folding fitted sheets and unclogging drains on my list of favorite household chores. I’ve lost count of how often I’ve heated up spaghetti Bolognese or chili only to pretend I didn’t see the explosion that followed.
Last week, after heating my daughter’s leftover lasagna (with a microwave-safe lid, no less), the interior of my microwave looked like a modern art exhibit. Unable to deal with it in the morning rush, I shut the door and forgot about it. For days. Several uses later, the lasagna remnants had made a more permanent mark. So, I finally decided to put the Dollar Tree’s “Angry Mama” Microwave Cleaner dupe to work.
You’ve probably seen the original Angry Mama on #cleantok or late-night infomercials. It’s a funny little figurine whose head emits steam when she’s angry (relatable). While the name-brand version costs anywhere from $5 to $15, this Dollar Tree doppelgänger delivers the same magic for just $1.25. And magic it is. The leftover lasagna was no match for a woman scorned.

Why I Love Dollar Tree’s Microwave Cleaner
You really can’t beat the price. At just $1.25, I could buy multiple and still spend less than the original. But more importantly, it actually works without any harsh chemicals. This microwave cleaner uses vinegar and water to create steam that softens the most stubborn, forgotten-about-for-weeks splatters. Plus, there’s something cathartic about using an angry-faced woman to clean up after my kitchen mistakes. It’s like she’s mad, so I don’t have to be.
How To Use Dollar Tree’s Microwave Cleaner
Here’s how easy it is: twist off the head, fill the body with vinegar and water (there are lines to guide you), pop the head back on, and microwave it for five minutes. That’s it. There’s no scrubbing involved.
When the timer dings, let it cool for a couple of minutes before removing it by the arms (which stay cooler), and wipe everything down with a cloth or sponge. If you’ve got any extra messy or harder-to-reach bits, pull out the hot turntable with oven mitts and wipe it down in the sink.
While I’ve had zero issues with my Dollar Tree find, I’ve heard that a small number of users have had their OG Angry Mama melt. Microwaves operate at different wattages, so follow these tips to keep your mama in fighting shape:
- Never microwave it for more than the recommended time, and always start at the low end and assess before continuing.
- Fill the liquid to the proper lines. Overfilling can cause excess pressure, and underfilling can lead to overheating.
- Inspect it before each use for any cracks that might make it vulnerable.
