The $1.65 Aldi Find I Can’t Stop Eating



We have pickles!” is how any good party starts. I’ve attended multiple summer gatherings where people have been more excited about the pickles than the alcohol. If summer barbecues were a film, the burgers, hot dogs, and drinks would be the main stars. The pickles would be like the surprise celebrity cameo (people don’t go to the theater to see them, but they go wild when the unexpected celebrity comes on screen). 

I frequently shop at Aldi, where I’m used to buying standard grocery-store quality pickles. They’re fine, but nothing to write home about. I recently bought a jar of its Great Gherkins Kosher Baby Whole Dill Pickles to include on a charcuterie board, not expecting much. However, I was quickly impressed by their quality.

  • Why I Love It: The whole baby pickles have a nice salty, briny flavor, but most importantly, a satisfying snap that makes them great for snacking on.

Why I Love Aldi’s Great Gherkins Kosher Baby Whole Dill Pickles

When I first bit into one of these baby dill pickles, I had to pause for a moment. Could these be… not just good, but genuinely great? Salty and briny, they had a nice balance of vinegar and salt. Even more impressive than the satisfying taste was the bite.

Other grocery store pickles can be slimy or difficult to bite through (looking at you, limp dill pickle spears). These baby wholes are delightfully crunchy and firm thanks to their compact size, which also makes them easy to hold and eat multiple in one sitting. At $1.65 for a 16-ounce jar, these pickles are a steal.

How To Enjoy Aldi’s Great Gherkins Kosher Baby Whole Dill Pickles

  • Serving: These pickles have more uses than just serving with a burger or sandwich. Chop them up for potato salad, egg salad, or as a substitute for relish. Alternatively, whip up pickle dip, make pickle pizza, or enjoy them plain with a side of whole grain mustard. 
  • Ideas for Leftover Pickle Juice: Don’t throw away your empty jar of pickles just yet. Use the remaining juice to season a green salad. You can even reuse the pickle juice to make a fresh batch of pickles

While some of Aldi’s pickles are refrigerated, these baby dill pickles are jarred, meaning you can keep them in your pantry all year round. I’ll be eating them throughout the summer and beyond!
