The $1.89 ALDI Product I’m Buying All Summer Long

Lately, it’s been difficult to avoid using the words “crunchy” and “fresh” in everything I write. That’s because during this time of year, I crave fresh, crunchy ingredients more than anything. Since we’re on the cusp of summer (weather-wise, not calendar-wise), there’s nothing better than light, crisp food to match.

That’s why ALDI’s Classic Coleslaw Mix has been on my grocery rotation.

ALDI Classic Coleslaw Mix

  • Price: $1.89
  • Why I Love It: This handy mix means I don’t even need to get out a cutting board when I want to add a cabbagey crunch to my favorite meals.

Why I Love ALDI’s Classic Coleslaw Mix

ALDI’s Classic Coleslaw Mix comes in a 14-ounce bag and includes shredded green cabbage with a sprinkling of shredded carrots. These light, crunchy vegetables satisfy exactly what I’m craving this season and are easy to add to meals or eat on their own.

The size of the bag is ideal—big enough for a few servings but not too big that I have to worry about the vegetables going bad before I’m able to use them all. Since the cabbage and carrots are pre-shredded, I love that I don’t have to get out a cutting board to incorporate these vegetables into my meals.

How I Use ALDI’s Classic Coleslaw Mix

I first discovered this coleslaw mix when making a taco recipe. I combined the coleslaw mix with Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and pepper for a crunchy slaw topping. Now, I’ve expanded beyond tacos and use this combination for barbecue burgers, fish, or on its own as a refreshing appetizer or snack.

For a sweet-and-savory alternative, I love combining this coleslaw mix with the dressing from Dolly Parton’s Broccoli Salad recipe, which uses mayo, powdered sugar, and apple cider vinegar. The cold, raw slaw balances out spicy, heavy, or hot dishes, infusing a touch of freshness into everyday meals.

ALDI’s coleslaw mix lasts a few days in the fridge. To maximize shelf life, I don’t store the mix combined with dressing. Instead, I portion out a smaller quantity I’m planning to use that day and mix it in with the dressing, keeping the rest in the fridge. If you’re like me, you’ll be buying this coleslaw all season.
