The $14.99 ALDI Appliance I Use Every Single Day

I often find products I never realized I needed when I wander through ALDI’s aisle of specials. Informally known to ALDI fans as “Aisle of Shame,” it often sells the coolest kitchen gadgets and cookware at a price that’s far cheaper than any you’d find at Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, or other higher-end home and kitchen shops. Most recently, I found the most darling egg cooker.

Why I Love ALDI’s Ambiano Electric Egg Cooker

This absolutely adorable appliance caught my eye during a recent shopping trip. For only $14.99, the Ambiano Electric Egg Cooker comes in black or white, with a simple on and off switch. It looks very similar to an egg cooker you’ll find at Target, but slightly cheaper and with more accessories.

The Ambiano Electric Egg Cooker includes a plastic insert that will seat seven eggs, plus a mini omelette tray, egg custard tray, and measuring cup. The cup is labeled with measuring marks for cooking your eggs to soft, medium, or hard boiled, as well as omelette and poached. The omelette tray is also designed to poach eggs. 

I chose the black version and, after putting it to the test, can attest that it’s as functional as it is cute. It measures just six inches in diameter, meaning it doesn’t take up much counter space, and the oval shape gives it a retro feel, design-wise.

My 15-year-old son couldn’t wait to try it and made seven medium-boiled eggs in about five minutes. When they were done cooking, the egg maker emitted a loud series of beeps that could be confused with the beeps of a smoke detector (except our smoke detector also says “fire” with its alarm, and the beeping doesn’t stop until you turn it off). They came out exactly medium, and my son was thrilled. “They’re perfectly cooked,” he told me proudly.

What I love about using the egg cooker is how precise it is. Every time I boil my eggs in a pot, I usually severely crack one of them as I put them in the water. My new egg cooker prevents this mishap from occurring. 

After trying the basic egg cooking function, both of us decided we had to make a mini omelette. The omelette accessory fits one large egg on either side to make either mini omelettes or poached eggs. We had to do a bit more adjusting this time around. The egg cooker told us our mini omelette was ready when it wasn’t, so we added a little more water and gave it a few more minutes. It reminded me of the perfectly cooked omelettes I enjoyed in Japan.  

My son and I are going to try making egg custard later this week, and that won’t be the only time this egg cooker will come into use. My son already has plans to make it a regular part of his cooking routine. “This egg cooker is going to come in handy this summer because I’ll probably make a lot of eggs before my practices.”  Needless to say, it’s our favorite new appliance.
