The $4.99 ALDI Find So Good I’m Going Back for More

ALDI’s bakery offerings tempt me greatly every time I’m there. I’ve found craveable cookies, decadent Kringle pastries, and some absolutely amazing pies. The latest pie I found is a seasonal surprise, and it’s so good, I’ll probably grab a second one this week.

ALDI Bake Shop Berry Crumble Pie

  • Price: $4.99 for a 24-ounce pie
  • Why I Love It: This pie has a flaky crust and delicious streusel topping. My favorite part is the filling, which combines sweet strawberries and blackberries with tart cranberries.

Why I Love ALDI’s Bake Shop Berry Crumble Pie

First of all, I am delighted by the unexpected filling combination of strawberries, blackberries, and cranberries. I never would have thought to add cranberries to a mix of strawberries and blackberries, but the trio works nicely together.

Like so many of the Bake Shop offerings, it comes at a very reasonable price, and an entire 24-ounce pie costs only $4.99. The pie’s label says it serves five, but in my house with a hungry teenager, it makes about four servings. I think most people can easily get six servings out of it if they cut smaller slices.

The pie itself reminds me of the creative offerings found at one of my favorite pie shops in northern Wisconsin. The streusel topping is piled high—about a quarter inch or more—and conceals a bright red filling that oozes out when you cut a slice. The pastry crust is nice and flaky. I really loved the filling best—the cranberries’ natural tartness paired so well with the sweet summer berries.

Our 15-year-old son, berry fiend that he is, cut himself a quarter of the pie to consume while he played video games with his friends. “This is really good,” he told me. My husband, smartly, I might add, warmed his slice up before he topped it with vanilla ice cream. Warming it up for about 45 to 60 seconds in the microwave is the way to go. I also think whipped cream would be a nice topping. Our son said cookie dough ice cream would pair well with it, too, but I disagree with him on that.

What we all agree on, however, is that this delicious pie is good enough for company. I think it’s a worthy dessert to share with friends or family at a summer BBQ or potluck, and also feels fancy enough for a sit-down brunch party.

There was a tiny slice of pie left after we all sampled it, and I have to confess, it tasted really good with my morning coffee. As a sweet breakfast, it set my day up quite nicely.
