The $4.99 Aldi Find That’s as Good as Starbucks (And Way Cheaper)

When the weather warms up, I switch my hot coffees to iced. While I will make them myself, more often than not, it’s easier to pop into a local coffee shop or grab a bottle of Starbucks from the grocery store.

As a bargain shopper, I was absolutely thrilled to see not one, but three varieties of iced coffee in the refrigerated section of ALDI recently.

ALDI Barissimo Iced Coffee

  • Price: $4.99 for a 48-ounce bottle
  • Why I Love It: ALDI’s bottled iced coffee tastes just as good as brand-name versions, but at a fraction of the price. I especially love the rich, deep flavor and smooth texture of the dark roast.

Why I Love ALDI’s Barissimo Iced Coffee

Just like Starbucks’ bottled iced coffee, Barissimo offers three different roasts: dark, medium, and blonde. But unlike the Starbucks bottles, which can cost nearly $7 depending on the store, each 48-ounce Barissimo bottle costs only $4.99, making it notably cheaper.

I grabbed a dark iced coffee because I like my coffee dark and rich. The next morning, I cracked open the bottle, and a whiff of roasted beans hit me. I poured a cup over ice—black, as I like it—and confirmed that it absolutely tasted as good as the bottled Starbucks. I took my iced coffee and I sat on my porch to enjoy the purple and pink wildflowers that are flourishing in the woods near my home.

The rich, dark coffee reminded me of the summers my friend Bec and I would walk to the farmers market near my old neighborhood in Milwaukee and grab an iced coffee. They’d ask us if we wanted room for milk, and I would always say I took it “black as my heart,” and Bec would then ask for a coffee “black as her soul,” as we laughed.

Since I enjoyed the dark roast so much, I also tried the medium, which, as expected, tasted lighter but just as smooth. I plan to try the blonde roast, too, if it isn’t sold out the next time I’m at ALDI.

The bottle itself makes four 12-ounce servings or six 8-ounce servings. If you’re a daily coffee drinker, you’ll definitely want to stock up on a few bottles during your next ALDI run.
