The $9.99 ALDI Find I’m Using All Summer Long

I would never have imagined that a huge storage container would be at the top of my list of summer must-haves, but this $10 ALDI find is exactly that, and I’ve only had it a week. For the last several years, ALDI has sold several sizes of Crofton Fruit Bowls. These three-piece sets have a bowl, colander insert, and lid and come in two sizes: Large and Small (which comes as a two-pack).

When browsing the ALDI Finds last week, I remembered seeing the Large Cut Fruit Bowl on both Reddit and TikTok last summer, and grabbed it without a plan. I immediately put this genius tool to work in my kitchen, and I’m letting you know now that you need to grab one before they sell out for the season! 

What Is ALDI’s Crofton Large Cut Fruit Bowl 

Essentially an oversized food storage container that holds seven quarts (without its insert), Crofton’s Large Cut Fruit Bowl is designed to hold—you guessed it—cut fruit. The inset strainer allows juices to run off into the outer container and keeps cut fruit, like watermelon or strawberries, fresh for longer. It has a tight-fitting lid to cover the container and the strainer that also allows those juices to be drained off through two spouts on either side of the bowl.

True to the website, it does hold all the cut fruit from a medium-sized watermelon. This large cut fruit bowl is dishwasher safe and, thanks to a square-like shape, doesn’t take up too much room in the fridge or cabinet. 

Other Uses For the Crofton Large Cut Fruit Bowl 

I bought the Large Cut Fruit Bowl the same day as my local farm’s CSA program started, and there was a ton of produce to wash, which is how I discovered that it makes a nearly perfect basin for washing produce. Fill the strainer with lettuce, and you can either rinse off any farm dirt with just the strainer or put the strainer into the container and fill the base with water for swishing around. It makes a fairly decent replacement for a salad spinner! And now my lettuce is prepped and stored in the Large Cut Fruit Bowl for making salads this week.

I haven’t had a chance to use it for cleaning and storing fresh berries yet, but I have a feeling it will work well for that, too. It might also make a great ice bucket for chilled summer wines on our patio this summer, since the melting ice can drain away as we enjoy the bottle.
