Late last week, I was standing in my kitchen at 7 a.m., staring at a piece of toast that my daughter claimed “looked like cardboard.” But I was fresh out of groceries, and toast was all that was on offer.

My daughter survived—thrived even (gasp!)—on her peanut butter, banana, and cinnamon toast. However, I decided that I should have at least one or two alternatives in my pantry for when we’re in a pinch. Why I’m Excited To Try Aldi’s Cookie Butter

Benton’s Cookie Butter, available in creamy and crunchy versions for just $3.49 each, is essentially liquid speculoos cookies in a jar. Cookie butter is exactly what you crave: cinnamon-spiced cookies with hints of caramel and gingerbread, transformed into a spreadable dream that rivals both Biscoff’s and Trader Joe’s pricier versions ($7.99 and $3.99 respectively).

I’m thrilled that Aldi offers two textural options, so everyone in my family is satisfied. (Yes, I plan to grab both.) I’m a crunchy gal for everything. My daughter, on the other hand, is all about everything smooth, and the others in my family can go either way.

The speculoos flavor is what makes it stand out from typical nut butters or spreads. It’s chock-full of deeply comforting, warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, along with a hint of caramelized sweetness reminiscent of holiday cookies. How I Plan To Use Aldi’s Cookie Butter

My first stop will be the breakfast table. I’m planning to swirl the cookie butter into oatmeal for an instant upgrade to our standard healthy breakfast, which will make it feel like a treat. I’m also looking forward to trying it on toast with sliced bananas, or dolloped onto pieces of still-warm French toast for a sweet weekend brunch. The crunchy version is especially perfect for adding texture to things like yogurt parfaits.

This cookie butter is also going to be a game-changer for my baking. I’m thinking cookie butter swirl blondies, where I’ll drop spoonfuls into the batter to create a gorgeous marble pattern.

The creamy version might be perfect for making an easy three-ingredient frosting (just cookie butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar), while the crunchy version is going straight into my next batch of peanut butter cups—but in this case, they’ll be cookie butter cups. Even better, it gives me a reason to try an easier version—cookie butter spoons.
