This Brand Is the Best Store-Bought Hummus I’ve Ever Tasted

I keep at least one container of hummus in our refrigerator at all times. It’s a household staple!

With a tub of hummus on hand, I feel confident that I’m never far from a satisfying snack or quick meal. For years, I made my own hummus, painstakingly peeling the membranes from the chickpeas before blending them to create a creamy texture. If you’ve ever peeled a can of chickpeas, you know it’s quite a time commitment.

Lucky for me, the Washington D.C.-based brand Little Sesame has a line of super-smooth hummus that I truly love, and I will never peel another chickpea again.

  • Price: $4.99 for an 8-ounce container
  • Why I Love It: Little Sesame is the perfect smooth, silky, tangy, earthy hummus.

I try to avoid hyperbole when talking about brands, but I can honestly say that Little Sesame is the best store-bought hummus I’ve ever had. I’d put it up against some homemade versions, too.

Little Sesame strikes a brilliant balance between earthy chickpeas, tahini, tart lemon, and a hint of garlic. The hummus is made with fresh ingredients and a chef’s attention to detail, which checks out—Little Sesame founders Nick Wiseman and Ronen Tenne worked together in a restaurant in NYC.

Little Sesame Hummus Is All About the Flavors

Despite being a long-time hummus lover, I had never found a flavored hummus that I liked until I tried Little Sesame’s. Their jalapeño hummus introduces a bit of heat to the equation that I enjoy, and the caramelized onion hummus delivers a nice, long-cooked oniony sweetness.

But my favorite of the flavored options is the preserved lemon hummus, which features a bright, citrusy pop that I adore. It’s my go-to snacking hummus.

How I Enjoy Little Sesame Hummus

Served with pita crisps or carrot sticks, hummus is one of my family’s most reliable afternoon snacks. It gives us a much-needed energy boost to keep us satisfied until dinner time. But beyond its snackabilities, I love using Little Sesame hummus as a spread on veggie sandwiches and as an anchor for what we call “hummus and friends,” a family dinner that starts with a big swoosh of hummus and ends in a choose-your-own-adventure of toppings.

Little Sesame also just released 2.5-ounce single-serving cups—perfect for anyone who might be inclined to pack a lunch.

Where to Buy Little Sesame Hummus

I live in Richmond, Virginia, so Little Sesame’s HQ in Washington, D.C., is pretty close to me. I learned about the company shortly after it started, and I could usually find the hummus at a local Whole Foods.

Now, however, you can find this hummus in Whole Foods stores across the country, plus Wegman’s and Giant. If all else fails, you can shop online, where you can create your own Little Sesame bundles, which include a bag of exceptionally fluffy, flame-kissed pitas for dipping.
