This Grocery Store Makes The Best Cakes (Even My Grandma Agrees)

If there is one thing my family knows for certain, it’s that no matter how much dinner you eat, there is always room for dessert. Whether it is a gathering for someone’s birthday or a full Thanksgiving dinner, there will be at least three dessert options on the table.

What is at that dessert table, you ask? Usually, my grandma’s famous chocolate chip cookies (I later learned that her recipe is just the Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag), brownies, fruit, maybe a homemade cake if someone was feeling fancy.

But usually, without fail, some freshly baked product from the ShopRite bakery will be at the center of the table, and there are rarely leftovers.

Why My Family Can’t Stop Buying ShopRite Cakes

In preparation for this love letter to the ShopRite bakery section, I asked my family members for their opinions on what makes the treats from this magical section of the grocery store so great.

“ShopRite gets it right every single time. Always fresh! It’s my go-to spot for classic cakes,” my sister Amanda texted me, after asking if I was being paid by ShopRite to do this (Answer: no, I am not).

“I feel their mocha cake is the best, it’s not too sweet. They are always fresh and not as expensive as a bakery cake. Easy to get them customized. That’s all I can think of now, hope it helps a little,” my grandma texted me after, like my sister, questioning why I was writing about ShopRite cakes.

Though I was surprised that my family’s first reaction was to question why someone would write about the cakes we love praising and serving on every holiday, I realized it was because we expected ShopRite’s cakes to be good. Instead of “Wow, ShopRite cakes are actually really good,” our family mentality was, “Duh, of course they are. ShopRite cakes are always good.”

ShopRite’s Bakery Makes More Than Great Cakes

It almost doesn’t matter whether or not the cakes, cookies, and pies are actually baked that day, because they taste like they are. They always taste homemade, they are never too sweet, never too small, and always available. You could wander into a ShopRite right before closing and get a cake that tastes just as amazing as if you popped by first thing in the morning.

In fact, the only cakes I really enjoy eating are ShopRite cakes because they’re moist and delicious, and the frosting is thick but not too sweet. Nothing is worse than biting into a cake where the frosting is so sickeningly sweet you can’t get past that one bite.

I would be remiss not to mention the other bakery products that ShopRite makes, because while my family devoutly loves its sheet cakes, my boyfriend and his family love its pies. In fact, for his birthday, I bought him a personal-sized apple pie, a pie so tiny it barely fit the giant number candles I also bought at ShopRite.

I knew he wouldn’t want to eat apple pie every day for a week, and apparently so did ShopRite, because a four-ounce mini pie was readily available for me to buy, and by my boyfriend’s account, it was just as delicious as the store’s full-sized pies.

I love fancy bakery treats as much as the next gal, there is no denying that. But when I am looking for a taste of home, a reminder of family, and a really good slice of cake, my first stop is the ShopRite bakery.

I’m not sure if ShopRite’s bakers are aware of the fans they have across the New York Tri-State Area, but my family and I are thankful for their delicious baked goods. May their recipes never change and their cakes stay fresh. No one does it better than ShopRite.
