I love peanut butter. Ever since I was a kid, literally eating it by the spoonful, the nut butter has been there for me through thick and thin (or creamy and crunchy).
When I lived in New Zealand, peanut butter could be tricky to find, but I’d seek it out in the dark corners of the grocery store. Eating it on an apple one day, the 8-year-old I lived with gave me a loud “Ewwwwww!” I happily kept munching. Much of the world isn’t on board with peanut butter and fruit, and it’s their loss.
Because I’m such a fan, I make it a point to try all of the peanut butter brands I can find. A personal favorite is One Trick Pony, a company out of Washington, D.C. that makes its peanut butter out of two ingredients: Argentinian peanuts and salt. That’s it. I love the strong peanutty flavor and the level of saltiness—it’s just right.
When I heard about One Trick Pony’s new upside-down jar, I slapped my forehead. Why hadn’t a company done this before?

Why I Love One Trick Pony’s New Peanut Butter Jars
I’ve long lamented the standard peanut butter packaging for two reasons:
- It’s so oily: With natural peanut butter (my preference), the oil rises to the top. You can store the jar upside down, but it’s a bit precarious and a mess to stir.
- Too many nooks and crannies: I want every last bit of peanut butter out of the jar. That is genuinely hard to do when most jars have undercuts, indentations, and hard corners. My knife simply can’t do it, and that’s so disappointing.
The new jars from One Trick Pony address both issues. They are designed to be stored upside down so the oil ends up at the bottom of the jar rather than the top. The mouth is also much wider than a standard jar, so not only does the peanut butter come better mixed than most natural nut butters, it’s easy to stir without making a mess.
The shape is also designed so that there are zero nooks and crannies. You can easily swipe every last bit of PB out of there and put it right into your mouth. Plus, the jars are super cute.
